Acorny For Fall

There was a group gathering of card makers at a friend's house.  I thought all of us would be able to finish at least a big handful or two of completed cards since we were together between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Wow!  Was I ever wrong.  I didn't even get one completed card done...... so much fellow-shipping which was wonderful.  The Hostess made chili and soup, there was dessert, drinks, you get the picture.  The soup was a "Slow Cooker Three Cheese Broccoli Soup", and I'll share the recipe with you. 

Two retired Stampin' Up sets I've used on these cards were Lovely As A Tree and the Acorny Stamps & Punch.

They were quick and mass produced. This is not one that I spent much technique, coloring, stamping, or layering.  It is simple, and will get my Autumn greetings and news to all friends and family. 

I punched the Acorns, then stamped in dark yellow on the caps and a brown on the nut.  I scallop-cut the patterned paper, then in dark purple, inked several oak leaves to fill in the white spaces.

Here comes the Soup recipe:

2 Tbsp butter                             1/2 cup finely chopped onion
12 oz can evaporated milk        32 oz chicken broth
2 cups broccoli, fresh/frozen    1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt                                 8 oz cubed Velveeta cheese
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

In skillet melt better over med. heat. Add onion and cook til tender. Pour broth, onions, milk, broccoli, salt & pepper into cooker -- mix well.  Cover and cook on low for four (4) hours. 

Add Velveeta cheese cubes, stir until melted.  Add cheddar cheese & Parmesan cheese and stir until melted.  Turn off cooker so cheese won't curled.  (Optional) Sprinkle individual servings with cheddar cheese.

Enjoy this wonderful recipe with a gathering of your own.  Don't forget to double or triple the recipe.

Baby Giraffe - I.O. Challenge Haunted Greetings, SSS "Anything Goes"

I'm needed less and less as an in-home nurse to my young daughter, and this is the first challenge I'm joining in since about three (3) years ago.  I'm so excited about doing another challenge--finally, as well as excitement over a new I.O. stamp set I got named Baby Giraffe.  It has such cute elements to this set including a scarf, a bow tie or hair bow, and an "ascot" along with encouraging sentiments.

To stay true to the rules of I.O., I hand-inked the bush behind the giraffe since I had no I.O. tree stamps.  I'm also trying to renew my skills at shading which has suffered the past few years of being away from card making but I did put a bit of moonlight shading on the baby.      http://mitrafriant.typepad.com/impression_obsession_news/2017/10/new-challenge-haunted-greetings.html

Snowman on Domino

Now is the time--it's the Christmas card making season.  This project is not a card.  It is inking on a domino from the toy section of a store.  Not the wooden kind, but the ceramic type. 

This adorable snowman is sitting on snow with snowflakes showering down upon him.  When finished coloring the backside of the domino, not the side with the spots, I let it dry for a few minutes then sprayed it with clear coat to keep the ink from being ruined. 

When the spray coat became dry, I flipped the domino over and glued on a pin so it could be attached to my winter coat.  Then............  the ribbon was adhered to the domino.

Red, White & Blue Iris Folding

I don't do much iris Folding, but decided to give it another try for a military friend.  This is the outcome, but I actually had to have a practice run first. 

I followed a template for this particular shape.

The template was gotten from http://www.bulbinblue.com/DIY-Craft/techniques-1201-iris-folding.deco     There are many different sites that have all sorts of shaped templates.  Just do a Google Image Search for Iris Folding.  Many pretty shapes will be shown.

Vintage Chic Duo

Here's a card I've made from one of my very favorites from GinaK.  It is a StampTV kit called Vintage Chic, and I bought this set a few years ago.  This is a take off a card I saw and here it is. 

The embossed roses are an embossing folder from Stampin' Up.  I kept everything as simple as possible and yet have interest with a bit of elegance.

And here's the "same" card with flip-flopped colors.  I cannot figure out which I like best.  Which color combo do you like best?
